Bhiwandi-Kalyan-Shil Phata Highway :
Pegged at Rs2,600 crore, the Bhiwandi–Kalyan-Shil Phata Road is one of the major links connecting the Mumbai Pune Highway (NH 4) at Shil Phata and the Mumbai-Nashik Highway (NH 3) at Bhiwandi. The road also provides continuity to the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway (NH 8) through the Thane-Ghodbunder Road (SH42).
The important urban centres located along the project road are Kalyan, Dombivali and Bhiwandi. Currently, the annual average daily traffic on the project road is more than 35,000 Passenger Car Units or PCUs.
The first phase is about strengthening the existing four-lane carriageway and widening the existing two-lane carriageway to a 4-lane divided carriageway of Bhiwandi Kalyan Shil Road.
Whereas, the second phase is for construction Kalyan Bypass (with a bridge on Ulhas River and Rail Over Bridge on the Central Railway line along with the approach roads) and flyover bridge of Bhiwandi Bypass Junction.

Thane and Kalyan-Dombivali added to Smart City list:
The second list of 27 Smart Cities has been announced by the govt. Maharashtra tops with five cities making it to the list, followed by Tamil Nadu and Karnataka with four cities each. So far, the urban development ministry has selected 60 cities from 27 states and Union Territories. In future, the remaining nine states and UTs will also come on board.

Thane: Metro, roads, flyovers — a lot is on offer for 2017
Wadala-Ghatkopar-Mulund-Thane-Kasarvadavali Metro-4 corridor will be issued next week, while their construction is to begin in May-June.32-km Metro 4 will cost Rs 14,549 crore. While the civil work for the project will be completely funded by the MMRDA, it is yet to be decided who will fund systems such as signalling. Apart from reducing overcrowding in trains and reducing congestion on Mumbai roads, the Metro is also expected to help in job creation in both skilled and unskilled sectors.

Thane Bhiwandi Kalyan MRTS :
Considering rapid development and population growth of Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan and adjoining areas and repeatedly demand from public representatives, MMRDA decided to take up feasibility study of Monorail project in Thane. Accordingly consultants were appointed to carry out feasibility study for Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan MRTS project. The feasibility study is completed.

Kalyan could be next big business hub by 2028 :
B y 2028, or 13 years hence, the rapidly developing suburb of Kalyan could be transformed into a business and cultural hub and a self-sufficient township, according to a plan submitted to the city’s development authority by the South Korean government.
A South Korean government think-tank under its Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, which has suggested the creation of five growth centres in the outer Mumbai region, has recommended developing Kalyan as the first priority keeping in mind its accessibility and growth potential. The other four centres recommended are Vasai-Virar, Bhiwandi, Greater Panvel and Pen-Alibaug.
Based on its experience in development of new districts around its capital Seoul, it has outlined a concept plan for a Kalyan growth centre, which could be completed by 2028 with an investment of Rs 56,676. 2 crore.
